If you are looking for ways to reduce your weight through the foods you consume then let me tell you right now, you are smarter than most.

This article is about flaxseed oil and weight loss and should provide some helpful tips for adding this super food source to your diet.

Talk to a dozen people who have lost weight and you will get a dozen different opinions and methods that they have used to reduce their weight and gotten healthier.

I’ve lost count at how many diet programs there are on the market past and present. They range from the cabbage diet, the controversial Atkins diet and even the ‘eat as much as you like’ diet!

One combination that everyone is sure to agree upon if anyone intends to lose weight naturally, is eating less and moving more. Simple right? Ha, If only!

What you add to these two actions however, can make the difference between losing weight quickly or slowly; and keeping that weight off. Consuming flaxseed oil is something you may want to consider if you want to lose weight less painfully and more naturally.

So How Does Flaxseed Oil Benefit Weight Loss?

Whole or ground flaxseed adds fiber to your diet, which has lots of health benefits. This fiber aids the digestive process and helps it to work more efficiently.

In addition to the fiber, flaxseed can also help you to feel fuller and add omega acids to your diet, which has many health benefits of its own, including curbing your sweets cravings.

Omega acids help to restore health to the body in many different ways, such as aiding the circulatory system, cardiovascular system, joints and more. This makes the entire body work more efficiently, which aids in weight loss and makes you overall healthier.

The increased health to all of the cells in your body helps you to have more energy, greater stamina, and an overall increased feeling of well-being, which will help you to have more self-discipline and willpower.

Flaxseed and weight loss can work hand in hand to allow you to lose weight easier and quicker.

Flaxseed can increase your metabolic rate to help you to burn calories much more effectively. This will allow you to lose weight more efficiently, simply because your body will be working better.

Combining flaxseed oil supplements with eating healthier foods and exercising and moving more can allow your body to become the fat burning furnace that you want it to be.

If you are trying to lose weight and want a little boost in your fat burning efforts, you will want to consider flaxseed.

Whether you consume it whole, ground, or in oil, you will find that it can help your body to work better and allow it to burn calories more efficiently, which will help you to lose more weight.

Flaxseed oil and weight loss is a great combination because it works. Flaxseed oil is easy to consume and can be purchased as a supplement and added to your daily diet.

I am new to the flaxseed idea although have heard it mentioned a couple of times. I need to lose weight but also I have a dietary problem that remains unresolved. Not sure whether I have an allergy or intolerance or what but on reading the yeast syndrome (about the 7th suggestion of what may be wrong) I saw the suggestion of flaxseed again.
Problem, I live in community and eat most meals already prepared, except breakfast, and only do our own at the weekends. Which would you suggest – whole, ground or oil as a starter and how often? Like each meal or once a day? thank you

      @kim hutchinson:

      Hi Kim,

Taking 2 or 3 grams (even just 1 gram) of flaxseed oil daily will benefit your health in many ways including helping to lower cholesterol which will help with your weight loss. It doesn’t matter if you consume it at one meal or 3, but don’t go overboard with it. Just 2 or 3 grams a day is about right. I suggest you use flaxseed oil rather than ground or whole flaxseed.

Don’t cook with flaxseed oil as it will break down and you will lose it’s health promoting compounds. Add it raw to foods like cereals and salads.

Buy it from reputable companies like the ones I recommend on this site, and keep it refrigerated as it spoils fairly quickly otherwise.

      Hope that helps,

      Sarah

Thank you Sarah – how does that look on a teaspoon. The jar says one or two a day. I was thinking 1 tsp with my breakfast because I have no idea how to measure a gram.

      @kim hutchinson:

Yes a teaspoon with your breakfast is ideal. That’s how I take mine.

      hi Sarah,
I work out at night. Will it be fine if I add flaxseed oil to my dinner salad??

      Thanks in advance ,
      Surabhi

    6. Sarah says:

      Hi Surabhi,

Yes of course. There’s no reason why anyone can’t consume flaxseed oil or flaxseed at any time of day or night.

    7. Selena says:

Hi. I heard flaxseed oil aids in HRT! Is this true?

    8. Sarah says:

Hi. I heard flaxseed oil aids in HRT! Is this true?

Yes Selena, with the problems often associated with HRT drugs, flaxseed contains both anti-estrogen and estrogenic properties due to its lignans.

According to Louise Gittleman, MS, CNS from WebMD it is “as effective as traditional HRT in lessening hot flashes and sweating.”

She also goes on to say “One of my favorite and best-researched foods for menopausal symptoms is flaxseed. Flaxseeds offer a high content of essential fatty acids and large quantities of a natural hormone-balancing substance known as lignins.”
